One of the main benefits of doing CrazyLister’s customer support as the CEO is getting to personally connect with our users.
I learn a ton and often get to hear awesome success stories from successful eBay sellers (a good example is this ebay seller who went from $0 to $250K in eBay sales in just 3 months!). In this post, I’m going to share my chat with a CrazyLister user – Philip Bourdon, who increased his eBay sales by more than 76% with a simple change you can implement today.
Philip contacted us about 2 weeks ago via CrazyLister’s customer support, asking for some help with his photos. After helping Philip with the issue, he told me that my advice to add social proof and a personal touch to his eBay listings kicked his sales up –
I asked Philip about what he was doing differently.
Diving deeper into his case, I discovered that Philip managed to increase his eBay sales by a whopping 76% and this was before the month had even ended!
Here is what Philip’s February (2016) sales look like –
And here is 25th of March (2016) –
Before the end of the month, Philip managed to increase his eBay sales by more than 76% and drive his average selling price up by 2.69%.
So, what exactly did Philip do to increase his eBay sales?
Philip has no coding or design skills and you can easily implement the change he did on your own eBay listings.
Here are the before and after of Philip’s listing header –
As you can see, the main change is the photo Philip used – this addition brings much more personality and trust to his listing, carrying the message – “I’m not hiding behind my business, I’m working hard for you and am proud to show my face on my listings!”
Successful eBay sellers don’t have to “hide” their identity, the opposite is correct, showing the identity helps to establish trust between both sides and is more likely to lead to sales.
Another tip by Philip for Clothes sellers –
“I found that an image of how to measure jeans is not just helpful, it also looks more professional.”
Our friends at size.ly actually created a super easy solution for adding such measurements –
You just add your measurements and get a professional image with measurements (for free!).
I was about to submit this post for proofreading when I got the following message from Philip. I felt compelled to share it –
Philip wrote us:
“Month not over and I’m at $3939. I just need $61 more for the 4K. I just wanted to reach 2K! LOL It won’t be easy to match that figure next month, but I’ll give it my best.”
I want to congratulate Philip on his achievements and thank him for sharing his eBay success story, which I hope will inspire others to try similar experiments!
The important message from Philip’s story is that successful eBay sellers convey elements of authority and trust that increase the buyer’s confidence in making a purchase. Adding a genuine photo of yourself or your shop is a good way to get a message across that your business is real, you are real and the buyer has someone real to contact after he makes the purchase.
